Mudchute Park And Farm

Some sheep grazing in the grass of Mudchute Farm

Mudchute is located on the Isle Of Dogs in the Docklands. These are just a few of the many unusual names of places in the UK which are in common day use. But it might be easier to locate if you knew that Mudchute Park and Farm is located just south of the esteemed perfection of Canary Wharf. Which is so rich it even has touchless pedestrian crossings and a station on the soon to be opened Elizabeth Line at Crossrail Place.

Location

The farm is located in the shadow of Canary Wharf and the many skyscrapers located there

Mudchute Park and Farm is located in Mudchute and is very close to Mudchute DLR station. Mudchute is located in the southern part of the Isle Of Dogs which isn't actually an island and isn't made of dogs. The Isle of Dogs is the famous southern protrusion of land caused by a meander in the Thames with the same meander also creating the Greenwich Peninsula which is home to the O2. Canary Wharf is also located on the Isle of Dogs which means that this farm with a variety of farm animals is located in the shadow of skyscrapers.

The Farm

Mudchute Park and Farm has a very rural feel

Whilst being a tourist attraction, supporting the local community, and being shadowed by some of the most expensive land in London, Mudchute has a proper farm with sheep, pigs, and horses among other animals. This provides a lifeline to the local community and provides a rural feel in a bustling city. The site consists of 32 acres which is split into a park, land for grazing, and tree covered paths.

Mudchute

Mudchute is mostly older suburban houses which are the antithesis of the Canary Wharf skyscrapers which are less than a mile away. Despite being the location of the former docks the area has gentrified massively over the last few decades (partly because of Canary Wharf).

The Isle Of Dogs has massively gentrified with Canary Warf the best example with it having many skyscaprers

Mudchute also has the DLR running through it with connections to the City of London, Stratford, Greenwich and Lewisham. The DLR and the Greenwich Foot Tunnel provide a connection between Mudchute and Greenwich under the Thames with these being two of the 19 tunnels under the Thames.

Millwall Park and the Abandoned Section of DLR

Millwall Park lies directly south of Mudchute Park and Farm and is a large open space. But the southwest edge of the park contains an abandoned section of viaduct which used to have the DLR running atop which allowed the DLR to terminate at the old Island Gardens station. But when the DLR was extended to Lewisham it needed to get under the Thames which meant that the viaduct (which is several metres above ground) needed to be replaced with a tunnel serving the new Island Gardens station.
