10 Interesting and Unique Bus Facts

Image
A mid bus card reader Boarding from the middle door of a London bus used to be quite common (especially in central London) but the number of routes where this is allowed has now decreased substantially to two. They are, in fact, both of the remaining red arrows routes the 507 and 521. The former of these routes runs from Lon...

The Bus Stop That's Not a Bus Stop (Epsom Golf Club and Rose Bushes)

Image
London has over 19,000 bus stops, several hail and ride sections , and (to my knowledge) two bus stops that are not a bus stop. Bus stops that are not a bus stop are common outside of TfL's remit with them usually seen as a way to save money and only erect one bus stop not two. Interestingly, whilst served by a TfL operated bus route both of these stops are actually located in the county of Surrey (outside of Greater London) with one in the borough of Epsom and Ewell, and the other in Reigate and Banstead. ...

All the Modes of Transport Operated by TfL

Image
TfL is a massive establishment which controls many different modes of transport in London including some obscure operations like streets and dial-a-ride. Buses TfL operates almost all of the buses in London with them controlling and tendering contracts for each individual route. The operators have some control in the services run like the seat moquette and type of bus. The 19 Tunnels Under the Thames

Image
Exactly 100 words about each of the 19 tunnels that pass under the Thames. Only tunnels that you can travel under as a member of the general public are counted (or have the majority of their construction completed) this excludes any utility tunnels constructed for power cables and the Silvertown tunnel which only started construction in March 2021. The tunnels are counted as one even if they have separate bores (avoiding me having to write double). The tunnels are ordered from west to east to mimic the flow of the Thames. And finally even this introduction was exactly 100 words. Victoria Line - Between Vauxhall and Victoria Opened in 1971, on the Victoria line extension from Victoria to Brixton, two years after the northern section of the line opene...
